I participated in the AkuShaper Bells contest organized by AKUSHAPER, the most important brand of shaping machines and software design in the world. The challenge was to design a board for the world surfing champion Italo Ferreira to surf the World Surf League (WSL) Bells Beach Australia event in 4-8 foot waves conditions. The evaluation of the designs was carried out by the great Hawaiian Shaper Wade Tokoro and the AKUSHAPER team. I won the first place in the contest and this is the board that I made for Italo Ferreira.
BELLS is a round (elliptical) tail, with a dome deck and soft low/medium rails. It has a low entry rocker and medium exit rocker. A single concave that comes from the nose and makes a transition to a triple and deep concave at 2/3 of the bottom. The extra area one foot from the nose is very important also.
The dimensions of this design are 5’10 x 18.75 x 2.25 x 26.03 lt.
I have personally seen Italo’s participation in several WSL events. His surfing is solid, fast and progressive. This model suits his surfing perfectly. I am super grateful to AKUSHAPER for giving me the opportunity to design a board for him.
