Gun Ilufish

GUN ILUFISH is one of the most important projects I´ve had so far. It was born from the need of Roberto Ilufin, big wave surfer and Joso Surfboards rider, to have the ideal gun for riding El Buey wave with more control. We had long conversations about the variables of the board, references from other big wave surfers and big wave board shapers, as part of the project, before designing and manufacturing it.

The outline of the GUN ILUFISH has a significant area at 2 and 3 feet from the tip as well as good thickness in order to have a good paddle to enter the wave more easily. It is characterized by having a narrow fish tail; Roberto felt the board smaller than it really was, the board was easier to move and control in the drop, and especially if he went down close to the wall to look for the tube.

It has a beak nose and the entire tip area has quite a bit of volume including rails. From the center of the board towards the tail, the rails are tapered to have more control and the board does not bounce with the force of the wave. The deck of the board is slightly flat before beginning the curve of the rail. The bottom has a V concave at the tip that transitions to a flat area to once again enter the longest area of the board with a V concave to the tail. The board has a medium rocker despite the length. It has a four fins configutation; located in the right place to feel control and security on the board.

It is laminated so that it has considerable weight to ride down big waves.
